City Container is an application with editable AR space designed for dwellers and travelers to create their own personalized city space and explore the city following others' stories by utilizing the technology of AR sparse spatial map and cloud recognition.
The pictures shown compare different cities in their past and present, and each town has erected numerous skyscrapers with similar looks.
The fact is that cities look to be singular and homogeneous in the rapid progress of urbanization, and the cities designed by a single generation don't differ much in terms of taste, design approach, and materials. Should we resist such a singular and idealized future landscape? How might we embrace a diverse scenario in the cities of today?
According to the “The Image of The City” concept of Kevin Lynch, the image of the city is characterized by people’s perception of urban spaces, from where studies are conducted for urban environments. People of different backgrounds perceive cities differently, so the city's image has varying definitions. Still, the image of the city of all urban residents could develop a general and overall image of the city.
The narratives of physical spaces often hinge upon entity elements, so changing or removing entities would completely annul these stories. However, AR's virtual space narrative structure is dynamic (not bound by time and physical space), interactive, and superimposable. Therefore, the variety of urban space is primarily up to the stacked AR space quantities.
I conducted several interviews and invited interviewees to write down anything they thought about urban space.
I find it makes little difference which city you are traveling in, for there are high-rise buildings in the heart of all the cities.
I think the busiest period of outing is when we are playing Pokemon Go.
I seldom go out on weekends now. I rely on online services for eating and shopping, and nothing out there appeals to me.
Based on the previous research and observation, I mapped people's demands for urban space in the thematic network and tried to discover potential opportunities.
